Abstract

1473236 Separating radioisotopes E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 1 May 1974 [4 May 1973] 19153/74 Heading G6R In a radioactive liquid generator comprising a column containing an electable radioactive material, the column is provided with inlet and outlet conduits fitted with pierceable closure caps 30, the column and conduits are enclosed in a radiation-shielding casing 42 which leaves the closure caps free to be pierced, and a fitting 100 designed to be joined to the casing is provided with closure piercing means 132, 138 and with connections for attachment to containers for the eluent and the eluate. In use, a container of eluent is inserted upside down in the holder 134 so that the needles 136, 138 pierce a sealing diaphragm of the container; an evacuated container is placed upside down in holder 130 so that needle 132 pierces its sealing diaphragm. Eluent passes through the generator column and eluate is collected in the container in holder 130. The casing 42 may be made of lead and constructed in two interfitting pieces. In a modified generator, Figs. 7-10 (not shown), the fitting 100 is in two parts and a plate is provided for the eluate leaving the generator. The generator is suitable for the elution of Tc 99m, for use in medicine, from Mo 99 supported on alumina, using saline or dilute HCl as the eluent. [GB1473236A]
