Abstract
alpha-Olefins are polymerised in the presence of a catalyst system comprising an organo-metallic cpd. (B) the metal being a Gp. I to Gp. III metal and a solid catalytic complex (A) (claimed) formed by reacting (1) metallic Mg, (2) an org. OH gp.-contg. cpd. (3) an oxygen-contg. or contg. org. cpd. of a metal Tr of Gp. IVa, Va or VIa, and (4) an Al halide. The catalyst system has the same advantages as those of BE 791676; e.g. high activity, broad mol. wt. distribution are good impact resistance of the polymer, with the additional advantage that it may be prepd. from more readily available cpds. and obviating the use of unsatable or dangerous materials.
