Abstract
1449748 Textile treating compositions IWS NOMINEE CO Ltd and CIBA-GEIGY AG 13 June 1974 [21 June 1973] 26306/74 Headings C3B and C3R [Also in Divisions D1-D2] A composition useful in rendering wool non- filling comprises organic solvent solutions or aqueous emulsions which contain: (I) polythiols (M.W. 400-20,000) which contain at least 2 thiol groups per molecule obtained from (a) polyalcohols, (b) alkylene oxides and/or dicarboxylic acids and (c<SP>1</SP>) carboxylic acids containing thio groups or from (C<SP>2</SP>) epihalohydrins and alkali hydrogen sulphides, the polythiols containing ether and/or ester bonds, or from (a<SP>1</SP>) polycarboxylic acids, (b<SP>1</SP>) alkylene oxides or dihydric alcohols and (c<SP>1</SP>) carboxylic acids containing thio groups; (II) nitrogen containing condensation products of epoxides, fatty amines and dicarboxylic acids the equivalent ratios of epoxide groups to amino hydrogen to carboxylic acid groups being 1 : (0À1-1) : (1-0À55) and optionally aliphatic diols and/or etherified aminoplast precondensates and/or epihalohydrins; and (III) optionally stabilizers against the harmful action of light. Typical I are those of formula m#1, n=1 or 2, p#2, p+q=3 to 7, each alkylene chain is C 2-6 between consecutive oxygen atoms, R is an aliphatic radical containing at least C 2 , X is a C 1-18 aliphatic radical containing at least one thiol group. This and other examples are disclosed in Specification 1,278,934 or for example from glycerol, adipic acid, butane-1,4-diol and thioglycollic acid in a 1 : 4 : 4 : 3 molar ratio. II may be prepared from a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, a C 20-22 fatty amine, sebacic acid, neopentyl glycol and epichlorohydrin, e.g. as disclosed and claimed in Specification 1,313,072. III may be a phenol containing at least one sterically hindered hydroxyl group.
