Abstract

Epoxy resins having an average number of epoxy groups per mol of more than one and derived from polyhydric phenols are cured with an anhydride of a polybasic organic acid in the presence of not more than 10 per cent by weight of the epoxy resin of a compound having less than 10 C atoms in the molecule and containing a primary alcohol group, e.g. glycerine n-butanol, ethylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, octanol-1. The compositions are cured by heating them in presence of the anhydride of the dibasic acid at 60-200 DEG C. In Example (1) a glycidyl ether obtained by condensation of 2,2-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl) propane and epichlorhydrin in molar ratio 1:1.60 in alkaline medium and having an average molecular weight of 800, an epoxy value of 408 and a hydroxyl value of 0.22, was mixed with the above specified alcohols in quantities shown in a table and the time in minutes required for hardening is tabulated in comparison with a mixture of the glycidyl ether and heptanol-2.
