Abstract
Pharmacologically active m-carbamoylphenylethanolamine derivatives of the accompanying formula I or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are prepared. In the formula I: R4 and R5 denote hydrogen or lower alkyl, R6 denotes an optionally substituted alkyl group and R7 denotes an optionally substituted alkyl group. These compounds are prepared by reaction of corresponding p-hydroxy-m-carbamoylethanolamines with compounds of the formula R6W in which R6 has the said meaning and W represents halogen or a tosyloxy group. The compounds are selective blockers of ss1-adrenoreceptors having minimal effects on ss2-receptors of the peripheral circulation, e.g. of the lung. Owing to these effects, they can be employed for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, e.g. angina pectoris, hypertension and cardiac arrhythmia. <IMAGE>
