Abstract

1367729 Simulated stained glass J F D HOLT 26 Sept 1972 44473/72 Heading C1M [Also in Division B6] A simulated stained glass article is produced by forming a first preform 15 as shown in Fig. 2 of translucent material with a first smooth surface 17 and a second smooth surface 16, applying a prepatterned coloured film 23 over the first surface 17, forming a second pre-form 18 with a smooth first surface 19 and channels 21 pre-formed in the second surface 20 and adapted to register with the boundaries of the different colours of the film, placing the second pre-form over the first pre-form so that the first surface 19 of the second pre-form is in contact with the film, and applying a leading effect in the channels and sealing the free edges of the two pre-forms to one another. The first and second pre-forms may be injection moulded or vacuum formed from a translucent plastics material, e.g. the first pre-form may be of cellulose acetate and the second pre-form of polycarbonate. The film material may be produced either photographically, or by adding or piecing together coloured film materials of cellulose acetate, or by litho or silk screen printing a pattern, e.g. on polyester or polyurethane film or cellulose acetate film. A number of layers of film material may be used. The leading effect may be flush with, below or extend proud of the surface 20. The leading effect can be produced by injecting plastics or by providing a soft metal wire or plastics material lattice which is subsequently held in place in the channel 21, the channels 21 being provided with convergent side walls to hold the lattice in place. The first and second pre-forms may also be made of glass, or one may be of glass and the other of plastics. In the embodiment the article is a lamp shade. [GB1367729A]
