Abstract
1447356 Coating oxides and carbon containing substrates UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 31 Aug 1973 [19 Sept 1972] 43393/72 Heading C7F A substrate which is carbon fibres, graphite fibres, diamonds, metal carbides, e.g. of Ti or W, and oxides, e.g. alumina or zirconia, is coated, e.g. by vapour deposition, with a material which does not react with the substrate, e.g. Cu, Du, Ag, Zn, Ga, In, Ge, Sn or Pb, and then with a material which can diffuse through the first coating and react with the substrate, e.g. Sc, Ca, Mg, Sr, Ba, Yt, La, Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, V, Ta, W, Mo, Cr, Al, Si, U, Th, Be or B. A further layer of e.g. Cu may be applied.
