Abstract
1392192 Delivering measured quantities of liquid BESPAK INDUSTRIES Ltd and W E WARREN 11 July 1972 [19 July 1971] 33793/71 Heading B8N [Also in Division F1] A discrete quantity of fluid discharged from a pressurized dispensing container is caused to flow into an air duct having an inlet and an outlet, when a flow sensor detects a difference in pressure between the inlet and the outlet. As shown a medicament inhaler comprises a housing 11 having air duct 28 which leads from holes at 29 up one side of a pivoted vane 31 and down the other to an outlet 12. A socket 18 receives the valve stem 16 off a pressurized dispenser 14 and has an outlet 18a closable by a valve 22 in a socket 19 having a discharge orifice 21 within the duct 28. The discrete quantity is measured between the container valve and the valve 22 which is engageable by a rod 23 on the end of a lever 26 connected to the vane 31 and pivoted at 26a on a flange 26b. A spring 30 causes the rod 23 to hold the valve 22 on the outlet 18a so that when the container 14 is depressed a charge is held in the stem 16 and socket 18 above the valve. Suction on the outlet 12 causes the vane 31 to pivot, withdrawing the rod 23 from the valve 22 so that the charge is released into the air flowing through the duct 28. A cap 32 closes the outlet 12 when not in use and has a pin 33 which engages an extension 34 of the lever 26 to allow the valve 22 to open; a tongue 32a closes the air inlets. Two other embodiments (Figs. 2 3, not shown), are described and comprise lever mechanisms which are spring loaded to close the valve, the levers having detents which are tripped by movement of the vane. The Fig. 3 embodiment includes a lever for depressing the container. It is stated that the valve may be opened by a solenoid, air flow being detected by a hot wire anemometer for example in a bridge circuit including a battery.
