1386095 4-Hydroxybenzodioxoles FISONS Ltd 25 April 1972 [4 May 1971] 12870/71 Heading C2C Pyrogallol is reacted with a ketal where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are C 1-4 alkyl or together are C 5-7 alkylene and R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are C 1-4 alkyl, at at least 90‹ C., to form a compound (II) and, if desired, the latter is converted to a compound (I), where R<SP>5</SP> is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl or C 2-5 alkanoyl and R<SP>6</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkenyl or C 2-4 alkynyl by reaction with an isocyanate- R<SP>6</SP>NCO, a carbamyl chloride ClCONR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP> (R<SP>5</SP> is C 2-4 alkanoyl), phosgene and then HNR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP>, or acylating a compound (I) where R<SP>5</SP> is hydrogen, made by one of the above reactions.
