Abstract
1381950 Making internally threaded bushings KONINKLIJKE EMBALLAGE INDUSTRIE VAN LEER NV 17 March 1972 [23 March 1971] 12617/72 Heading B3A [Also in Division B8] A bush comprises an internally threaded portion 1, a tapered part 3 with a radially outwardly directed flange 4 at its upper edge, and an outwardly directed thickened lower flange 6. Milling 5 is formed in the angle between the part 3 and the flange 4. The bush is applied from below into the collar 8 around the opening in the container wall, fitting with a slight clearance in which a gasket 9 is placed. The flange 6 engages the wall 7 at the bottom of the collar 8 and a frusto-conical mandrel 10 is lowered, deforming the upper section of the part 3 outwardly against the upper region of the collar 8 and bending the flange 4 over the upper edge of the collar by means of a shoulder 11 on the mandrel. The milling 5 grips the collar, preventing rotation of the bush. When the bush is applied to a thin-walled container (Fig. 4, not shown), the collar is shaped so that the bush abuts snugly against it, and the upper edge of the collar is bent over with the flange 4 as the mandrel descends. In modifications the milling is provided on the upper region of part 3 and on the outwardly facing edge of the flange 4. although this latter milling may be omitted and a label ring may be provided around the outside of the collar.
