Abstract
1360009 Chromene derivatives BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 9 Sept 1971 [14 Sept 1970] 42066/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R 1 is a C 1 -C 6 aliphatic group, R 2 is a C 1 -C 20 aliphatic group, R 3 is an optionally substituted C 1 -C 20 hydrocarbon group and X is OH or an ester, ether or salt thereof; and N- oxides, acid addition and quaternary salts thereof. These compounds are prepared by reduction with a borohydride of the corresponding quaternary pyridinium salt, or, e.g. the compounds in which X is OH may be O- acylated. Intermediates also prepared are the analogous 4 - (4 - pyridyl) - chromenes and -coumarins; and 1 - (4 - R - 2,6 - dihydroxyphenyl) - 1 - (4- pyridyl) - 3 - methylbut - 1 - en - 3 - ols, where R is Bu or n-hexyl. Therapeutic compounds for oral, parenteral or rectal administration comprise compounds of the above formula, which have cardiovascular and C.N.S., e.g. antihypertensive, activity.
