1358684 Carboxylic acids and derivatives thereof NOVO TERAPEUTISK LABORATORIUM AS 7 June 1971 [15 June 1970 2 Sept 1970 12 Jan 1971] 28924/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises the following novel carboxylic acids: 5-methylbenzo(b)furan-7-carboxylic acid 2,5-dimethyl-benzo(b)furan-7-carboxylic acid, 5-methoxybenzo(b)furan-7-carboxylic acid, 5-methoxy-2-methylbenzo(b)furan 7-carboxylic acid, 2,3-dihydrobenzo(b)furan-7- carboxylic acid, 5-bromo-2-methyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo(b)furan-7-carboxylic acid, 5-methoxy- 2,3-dihydrobenzo(b)furan-7-carboxylic acid, 2,3,5 - trimethyl - 2,3 - dihydrobenzo(b)furan - 7- carboxylic acid, 2,2,5-trimethyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo(b)furan-7-carboxylic acid, 2,2-dimethyl- 5 - methoxy - 2,3 - dihydrobenzo(b)furan - 7- carboxylic acid, 5-chlorochroman-8-carboxylic acid, 6-bromochroman-8-carboxylic acid, 6- chloro-2H-chromene-8-carboxylic acid, 7-methylhomochroman-9-carboxylic acid, 7-methyl 2,3-dihydro-1-benzoxepin-9-carboxylic acid and 2,3-dihydrobenzo(b)furan-7-carboxylic acid. Compounds (I) (including salts thereof) where R<SP>1</SP> is (a) alkyleneimino containing 4 to 7 carbons in the alkylene chain optionally substituted by one or two alkyls or by alkoxy except at the carbons adjacent to the ring nitrogen, (b) 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-1-pyridyl optionally substituted by one or two alkyls, (c) endoalkylenepentamethylene-imino having 2 or 3 carbons in the endoalkylene chain, (d) morpholino, (e) 2- isoindolinyl or tetra- or hexa-hydro-2-isoindolinyl or (f) 3-azabicyclo-(3,3,0)octan-3-yl, 3- azabicyclo-(3,2,0)heptan-3-yl or 3-azabicyclo- (3,1,0)-hexan-3-yl; R<SP>2</SP> is H, alkyl, alkoxy or halogen, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are H or alkyl and A is a 2 to 4 carbon chain, are made by standard methods utilizing compounds (III) and the corresponding -SO 2 NHCO 2 . alkyl compounds as well as the carboxylic acids corresponding to the grouping (V); carbamates of the type Ph.CO 2 NH.R<SP>1</SP> are also utilized. The following compounds are also prepared: 4,4 - diphenyl - 1,1 - (hexamethylene) - semicarbazide, 5-methoxy-7-methyl-homochroman, 2,2,5- trimethyl - 2,3 - dihydrobenzo(b)furan - 7 - carboxylic acid chloride, 7-bromo-5-methyl-benzo(b)- furan, methyl 2-#-methallyloxy-5-methyl-and-methoxy-benzoates, methyl 2-crotyloxy-5-methyl-benzoate, methyl 2-allyloxy-5-bromo-benzoate, methyl 2 - # - chloroallyloxy - 5 - methyl, -methoxy- and -chloro-benzoates, methyl 3-#-methallyl-5-methyl- and -methoxy-salicylates, methyl 3-α-methallyl-5- methylsalicylate, methyl 3-allyl-5-bromo-salicylate, methyl 3-#-chloroalkyl-5-methyl-, -methoxy-, and -chloro-salicylates, methyl 3-allyl-5-bromo-acetylsalicylate, methyl 3-allyl-4-chloro-acetyl-salicylate 6-chlorochroman-8-carboxylic acid chloride and methyl ester and 7-bromo-2-carboxy- and -ethoxycarbonyl-5-methyl-benzo(b)jurans.
