Abstract

1351602 Flexible hoses DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 19 April 1971 [15 April 1970] 17855/70 Heading F2P A hose comprises a first inner layer comprising layers 1 and 3 of hard, abrasion resistant elastomeric material and fabric breaker layers 2 and 4, and a second inner layer 5 of relatively soft resilient elastomeric material. In the embodiments described the layers 1, 3 are of hard rubber of approximately 75 degrees Shore hardness, and the layer 5 is of soft rubber of 45-50 degrees Shore hardness. The layer 5 is surrounded by layers of textile reinforcement 7, which may be of natural or synthetic fibres or metal cords, and another breaker layer 8 which forms a base for ring reinforcements 11, as described in Specification 1,339,722, which each comprise U-section rings of aluminium alloy that are filled with resinous material 10 containing reinforcing glass fibre filaments. To form a buoyant hose microcellular sponge layers 13, 15 are provided and the hose is covered with alternate layers 16 to 19 of fabric and rubber. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) a helical steel wire winding (20) is used as a reinforcement structure instead of the rings 11. In a non self-floating construction (Fig. 3, not shown) the microcellular sponge layers 15 are omitted and the layer 13 replaced by a normal rubber filler (21). The ends of the hose are connected to end fittings (Fig. 4, not shown) which each comprise a flange (22) welded to a nipple (23) by winding steel wire (27) between the textile layers 7. A replaceable lining tube (30) which may be of manganese steel or plastics material is provided, the lining tube being longer than the nipple so as to protect the joint between the nipple and the hose.
