Abstract
1292515 Urea SNAM PROGETTI SpA 19 March 1970 [4 April 1969] 13413/70 Heading C2C A process for the production of an aqueous solution of urea comprises reacting ammonia and carbon dioxide in a reaction vessel and allowing the resulting aqueous solution to flow as a film down a heated surface in a decomposition chamber to cause removal of the volatile products and starting materials from the aqueous solution as a gaseous phase, which gaseous phase flows countercurrently to the aqueous solution, the pressure in the decomposition chamber being lower than that in the reaction vessel. The countercurrent flow may be assisted by passing a stripping fluid in the form of an inert gas over the film. The process is preferably carried out at a temperature of from 50‹ to 250‹ C. at a pressure of from 0.1 to 250 atmospheres.
