1287764 Scouring cleanser compositions COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 2 Oct 1969 [14 April 1969] 48457/69 Heading C5D A substantially white scouring cleanser composition capable of undergoing colour change on contact with aqueous media comprises:-(A) 45 to 95% of a siliceous abrasive; (B) 0À1 to 50% of a bleaching agent capable of liberating hypohalite on contact with aqueous media; (C) 0À5 to 30% of a water-soluble organic detergent; and (D) 0À001 to 0À100% of a pigment or pigmented carrier capable of developing a stable colour on contact with water. The particle size of the carrier for the colour should be within the range 50 to 600 microns. The carrier may be a siliceous abrasive e.g. silica; an anionic, cationic, non- ionic or amphoteric detergent; a water-soluble inorganic builder salt e.g. trisodium phosphate, pentasodium tripolyphosphate, alkali metal silicate, nitrate, sulphate, chloride, carbonate, bicarbonate or metasilicate; a bleaching agent e.g. chlorinated trisodium phosphate; a bleaching aid such as an alkali metal halide e.g. sodium bromide; a germicide or a stain remover e.g. oxalic acid. The pigment may be any animal, mineral or synthetic pigment which is stable in the presence of the bleaching agent and possesses a reflectance in the 450 to 535 millimicron wavelength region of the visible spectrum. The bleaching agent may be a N-chlor-imide, N- brom-imide or a N-brom, N-chlorimide or mixtures thereof e.g. a mixture of potassium dichloroisocyanurate and trichloroisocyanuric acid; a hydantoin e.g. 1,3-dichloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin; tribromomelamine and trichloromelamine; lithium hypochlori e and lithium hypobromite; brominated or chlorinated trisodium phosphate, and others. Lists are provided of anionic, non-ionic, cationic and of amphoteric detergents andinorganic and organic builders additional to the carrier for the pigment. Other additions are bleaching aids, germicides and perfumes. The composition is prepared by adding the colouring agent to a ribbon mixer containing 40-60% of siliceous abrasive, mixing to form a homogeneous mixture and thereafter adding, in order, the detergent, the builder salt (if any), the bleaching agent and the remaining proportion of the siliceous abrasive.
