Abstract

1,220,980. Reciprocating pumps. F. H. HUMPHREY. Nov.4, 1968 [Nov.16, 1967; July 17, 1968], No.52245/68. Heading F1A. [Also in Division F2] In a pump fitted to a container, an elastonene member 70, which may be made of plasticized PVC, ethyl vinyl acetate, styrene-butadiene rubber, butyl rubber, natural rubber, or silicon rubber, has two sloping partitions 78, 80 forming compartments 84, 85, 86 of which 84 is connected to the inlet, leading to a suction tube 96, and 85 to the outlet, leading to a nozzle cap 93, respectively formed in a tubular member 75 on whose surface 74 is sealed a peripheral rim 72 of the elastonene member 70. Reciprocatory movement of a recessed portion 70 of the elastonene member pumps fluid to the outlet via the three compartments, each partition being lifted from the surface 74 when the pressure on its inlet side is greater than that on its outlet side. A cover cap 98 is threaded on to the container and is covered by a cap 100 with holes 104, 106 for the protruding portions of the tabular and elastonene members respectively, the cap having a rim 107 for a snap fit on to the periphery of the tubular member 75. The surface 74 of the tabular member may have a profile 113 extending into the central chamber 86 to confirm with the shape of the elastonene member 70 when depressed. To improve the seal with the tabular member, the rim 72 of the elastonene member may have an integral head (77) and the partitions may have sloping edges (110), (111), Fig.9 (not shown).
