[Also in Division E1] A glass reinforced thermosetting plastics silo shell 4, incorporating at least one prefabricated hatch frame member 16 and cover member 17, is centrifugally cast within an aluminium mould 1 which is supported upon rollers 2, at least one whereof is rotated by a motor, and into which mould I glass fibre and plastics are respectively deposited during rotation of the mould 1 from a means 14, and nozzles 12 supplied with plastics under pressure, which are carried by a means 11 which can telescopically be extended into the interior of the mould 1 and one whereof is provided at each end of the mould 1 upon a wheeled carriage 10 running on horizontal tracks 9. Means, not shown, are provided for heating the interior of the silo within the mould. The mould 1 comprises two semi-cylindrical shells which are held together by screws during moulding and one whereof may be lifted from the other, for removal of the cast silo, by arms 5 at each end of the mould which are rotatable to engage under lugs 6 of a mould half and are upwardly displaceable by hydraulic means 7. At least one pre-fabricated end closure may be incorporated into the silo during the moulding thereof. Each pre-fabricated hatch frame member 16 and cover member, which are each of generally rectangular endless configuration in plan, is supported within endless domes 18 welded on to the mould 1 and, after moulding is completed, the cover including a layer 4 of the glass fibre reinforced plastics extending across the interior surface of the member 17, is cut along a line 24, and may be pivoted about ahinge 25. In use, the cover 17 abuts a rubber seal 21 carried by the frame 16, and is secured in position by means 26. Connections for protective covers and ladders may also be moulded into the silo 4.
