Abstract

1473686 Moulding vehicle bumpers PHOENIX GUMMIWERKE AG 16 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973] 44834/74 Heading B5A Apparatus for moulding elongated U-section articles, e.g. vehicle bumpers comprises a pair of mould side shells 3, 4 defining the outer surface of the article and two further identically shaped mould cover shells 9, 10 each adapted to close the mould independently of the other and each mounted for movement into and out of a mould closing position. As shown, the mould side shells 3, 4 are supported on arms 7, 8 respectively for pivoting about shafts 5, 6. The cover shells 9, 10 are pivotable about shafts 11, 12. Alternatively a series of mould cover shells may be reciprocable over and alternately lowerable on to the side shells. After partial curing in the closed mould, the article is removed-on one of the cover shells for final curing, and the other cover shell is used for a further moulding operation, thereby doubling the output of the apparatus. The article may be of a foamable resin. The cover shells 9, 10 carry a series of clamping elements 14, 15. Dampers may be provided to cushion mould closing and opening. Removal of the article from the cover shell may be assisted by compressed air.
