Abstract

1,215,169. Mould for bending glass sheets. LIBBEY-OWENS-FORD CO. 25 Oct., 1968 [2 Nov., 1967], No. 50658/68. Heading ClM. [Also in Division B2] A mould for bending heated glass sheets comprises a shaping element 17 having a metal surface 42 conforming to the contour to which the sheet is to be bent, which element has a covering of fibrous refractory material 43 and a refractory coating 44 over the said covering. The insulating material may be an aluminasilica mat, preferably impregnated with colloidal silica. The coating may be colloidal silica mixed with fused quartz. The surface 42 may be sanded and primed prior to applying the covering 43 by use of adhesive layer 45. The coating 44 may be applied by painting the covering 43 with a slurry of refractory material, and heating to vaporize the liquid vehicle. Successive layers up to a thickness of 1/32 inch may be applied. The mould may comprise a skeleton-type mould element, there being channels 22 for cooling fluid, e.g. air, in the element, which may be used in combination with a male mould part to reshape sheets heated to about their softening point in conventional manner.
