A machine for deforming sheet metal such as a shearing machine or a folding press comprises a fixed bolster 2, a moving bolster 3 and a fixed frame 1 having a pump unit for supplying fluid pressure for operating at least one thrust ram 4, the movement of the moving bolster 3 being controlled by a synchronizing device which maintains the bolsters in a predetermined relative angular position by the action of sensors 5 which detect angular deviations from this predetermined angular position and actuate a pressure medium distributor valve 7 which feeds the synchronizing device with fluid pressure, the sensor including a correcting device 26 which is actuable to modify the action of the valve 7 so as to compensate differences in elastic deformations under load of lateral walls 1c and 1d which support the bolsters.
An inclination of the moving bolster 3 in the counterclockwise direction will create a high pressure in conduit 22a of the sensor circuit and a low pressure in conduit 23a.
This pressure difference is transmitted to the correcting device 26 and forces piston 28 downwards.
The movement of the piston 28 acting through a cable 10 pulls the valve 7 downwards so that conduit 23c is connected to discharge while conduit 22c is connected to the feed supply of the thrust rams 4.
The two sensor rams which have opposite directions of action, then produce a couple in the clockwise direction.
Microswitches 34 and 35 control the correcting device 26 so that the operation of the machine is stopped as soon as the difference in the deformations of side walls 1c and 1d reach a predetermined limit.
A modification of the correcting device comprises a ram 38a, which is fed by conduit 23c, and ram 38b fed by conduit 22c which are connected by a pivotable lever 39.
The pressure difference, created by counterclockwise inclination of the moving bolster 3 in the conduits 22c and 23c causes a lever 40 connected to the ram 38b to pull the valve 7 downwards via the cable 10.
