Abstract

1,218,024. Moulding tyres. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 9 July, 1968 [11 July, 1967], No. 31824/67. Heading B5A. Rubber or the like articles are moulded in a two-part mould 5a, 5b from which air is removed before the moulding stage by bringing the mould parts to a predetermined position to leave an annular space between the parts which communicates with the mould cavity, enclosing the mould within a chamber 2 sealed from the atmosphere, withdrawing air from the chamber thence from the cavity, closing the mould and maintaining the chamber pressure below ambient pressure during the moulding process. Initially, the mould part 5b and a part 2b of the chamber are lowered to enable a tyre blank to be positioned on a diaphragm, whereupon the parts 5a, 5b are moved towards each other to a predetermined position, the diaphragm inflated, and a telescopic part 6 of the chamber is lowered by means 7 to seal with the part 2b. The chamber is then evacuated, the mould closed and the assembly brought to the position shown. [GB1218024A]
