Abstract
1,189,047. Tined harrows. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. 26 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 14571/68. Heading A1B. A harrow comprises a frame 1 movable over the ground when attached to a tractor, with at least two tined members arranged to be driven by the power-takeoff shaft of the tractor in which at least one tined member 2 has a grating 16 or plate-like member 36 attached to it so that, during driving of the implement, the latter member moves in contact with the ground. This member helps to level or crumble the ground. Several circular tined members may be provided, each rotatable about a vertical axis and with the levelling or crumbling member 13A consisting of radial rods 16 as in Fig. 3 attached to a plate 13. The plate is supported by a shaft 12 and stop-washer 12A on a spring 12B acting against a stationary washer. This arrangement allows the member to be deflected vertically by any undulations of the ground surface. Tines 10 extend down vertically from a plate 9 which is rotatable with the shaft 12 about the axis of the member 2. Screens (32), see Fig. 1 (not shown) attached to the main tool bar 1 may be provided between the tined members, such that the rear edges of the screen are located approximately in the vertical plane containing the axes of rotation of the tined member. These screens prevent the soil from being deflected sideways to any great extent. Also, there may be two plates (29), extending back from either end of the row of tined members 2 on the main tool bar 1, carrying a smoothing strip (31A). Rotation of the members may be effected via bevel pinion 16A, sprocket wheels 21 and endless transmission chains 22, the whole being driven from a power source on the tractor via transmission means which may be adjusted to produce at least two speeds of rotation for a constant driving speed. The element 2 may be caused to rotate in a common direction, or they may be arranged in pairs to rotate in opposite directions. An alternative construction of the member 2 is shown in Fig. 5 in which the tines 10 are arranged to lie at an angle to the vertical, and the crumbling or levelling member 36 is of solid construction with upwardly sloping edges and slots 37 to accommodate the tines. In a modification shown in Fig. 10 one or two long supporting members 65 carry a row of tines 66 orientated at right angles to the direction of travel of the tractor. The crumbling or levelling member 67 is a long solid strip of curved cross-section. The members 65 are supported at their ends on the edge of substantially horizontal discs 62 which are attached to rotatable shafts in connection to the tractor power source via bevel pinions. Rotation of the discs 62 causes each tine 66 to execute a circular path through the soil. The power transmission elements may be arranged so that the two tine supports 65 move alternately toward and away from each other, or maintain a substantially constant distance apart.
