Abstract

The three way door with the hinge/latch hinges allow a vehicle much more flexibility to open in different ways allowing the trailer/vehicle much more options on where it comes to rest in relation to the intended cargo. The Door can open to the left right and straight down. The door pivots on the hinge/latches which can be released as necessary. The hinge/latch gives the ability to close very quickly when the gate/door is pushed home. As the gate is being closed it causes the hinge/latch to fasten and securely hold the door immediately. This makes the door/gate safe when transporting unstable items or animals. The side doors offer a flexible safer addition to a trailer/vehicle than current internal gates. The gates can be closed from the outside which means that it's not necessary to enter the trailer/vehicle to close internal gates. The side gates tuck away very neatly on the side of the trailer/vehicle when no in use.

Description

Description “A Three wav Gate/Door on latch/Hinges with side gates” ; The invention relates to a door/Gate on a Trailer/Vehicle having the ability to open three ways in instead of the normal one way as well as the vehicle then having side gates which swing in from the side of the vehicle to provide extra direction and security for what ever is being loaded onto the Trailer/Vehicle. 1.1 Three Way Door One of the major problems with normal gates on Trailer/Vehicles is that the doors only swing one way. This is often inconvenient as it might not be possible or very difficult to open the door in the direction the door/gate was designed to open in the location where the gate/door has to open. The three way door give the flexibility to open in three directions left, right and straight down as demonstrated in 0HS8 TO PUBLIC INSPECTION I UNDER SECTION 2δ AND RULE 231 Λ—IWk... hmm· j «040532 3.2 Door/Gate diagrams. The hinges on the door also allow the door to be closed very swiftly and securely unlike the normal doors on Trailer/Vehicles who require the person closing the door to keep the door closed for a period to allow them to employ a slower method of fastening the door close. The spring at the bottom of the gate also allows the tail gat to be lifted easily from the ground if it happens to be opened downwards. 1.2 Hinge/Latch Refer to in Diagram 3.4 for the labelling of the components. , The hinges mentioned above in 1.1 are a hybrid of a hinge and a latch which is much quicker and safer that than the normal latches normally used in trailer/Gates. This Hinge/Latch consists of three flat pieces of metal (J D and C ) arranged underneath each other with a hole bored through them for a cylindrical bar \ (I) to slide through. All three pieces are attached to the side of the trailer/vehicle where the door closes and hinges. The bar is always going through the top piece of metal (J) and it is being pushed by a spring (F ) down to go through the other two pieces of metal (D and c). The spring which is wrapped around the bar and is pushing on a ridge (E ) on the bar and the top piece of metal(J). Thus the normal resting place for the bar (I) because of the pushing of the spring is to be going through all three pieces of metal (J,D and C). It is possible however for the bar to be raised by a handle on the bar (I) which is at right angles to the bar. There is also another piece of metal protruding at right angles to the bar (G ). There is also a piece of metal (H) protruding vertically up from the top flat piece of metal (J). By Raising the bar (I) up and turning it (G ) comes to rest on (H) which keeps the bar (I) up allowing the flat piece of Metal from the Gate( B ) to go between (D and C ). As the Door Closes a piece of metal protruding from the door (A) hits (G) turning the bar (I) and causing (G) to fall off (H) the spring then forces the bar to go through D,B and C. Thus the door/gate is attached to the trailer/vehicle and creating a hinge as the door can rotate on the bar if necessary. Diagram 3.5 shows the Hinge/Latched in a closed position as apposed to the 3.4 diagram which shows it open. 1.3 Side Gates The side gates provide more direction for what ever is being loaded for example animals. Normally these side doors are inside the Trailer/Vehicle and have to be closed first before the main outside doors are closed. The side doors described here are attached at the side and will allow the main door to be closed safely first. The side doors can then be attended to after. There are two side gates one on each side.
When a Side Gate is working it is able to pivot freely on bar (A in Diagram 3.1.1.1). The two bars labelled E are held fast by a pieces of metal labelled D with a groove cut in it which is welded to the trailer/vehicle door frame. This holds B and A fixed and the two Bars labelled E against the Door Frame.
When the door need to be put away the two bars labelled E are lifted out of the Grooves on D and the Gate Pivots on Bar B until the bars labelled as E are roughly right angles to the frame of the door as shown on Diagram 3.1.2.1.
Then the Gate pivots on C as shown on Diagram 3.1.3.1 until B is at right angles to where it was on diagram 3.1.1.1 . ΜΕ Ο 4 0532 The Gate then pivots on B and A to Go from the position on Diagram 3.1.3.2 to the position in Diagram 3.1.4.1 and it is clasped by F to the side of the trailer/vehicle.
In One embodiment, the invention is to use the door on a trailer for loading animals. This trailer would allow the loading of the animals with greater flexibility allowing the trailer to open the door/gate three different ways and have the side gates for extra direction and security for the animals.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment described but may be varied in construction and detail within the scope of the claims. ieo 4 05 32 Claims
