Abstract
Organic waste is composted in a two-stage humification process by means of starter-cultures. The waste frequently contains domestic sewage sludge and bodying agent as peat or a cellulosic agricultural waste prod. as comminuted straw or farmyard manure. For aerobic fermentation a starter culture of Trichoderma Harzianum, Sporotrichum Termophile, Hupsicola Grisa Var. Thermioea, Streptomyces Thermophilus, Chaetomium Cellulyticum aerobic thermophylic gps., is prepd. on a nutrient, followed by fermentation. Fermentation brew is applied to a solid support and the starter culture is mixed with the materials to be composted at 18-25% solids content. Following this, the overall mixt. is stacked and exposed twice to air. During the anaerobic stage, facultatively chosen aerobic and anaerobic micro-organisms are employed; namely: Bacillus macerans, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus sp., Saccharomonospora viridis and streptomyces sp. for prepn. of the starter culture. This is mixed with the material to be composted and allowed to stand for approximately 30 days covered. Nutrient for prepn. of starter cultures contains a neutral mixt. of (grape)-mark and fen-plot. Pref. microbes are grown in a submerged pure culture, fermented, and then applied to a solid substrate. Starter cultures are homogenised prior to use.
