Abstract

Nitrate-free nickel sulphate is prepd. by electrolysis with a nickel anode and a cathode of graphite or a sulphuric acid insol. or sparingly soluble metal, pref. nickel. The electrodes are immersed in an aq. soln. of sulphuric acid sufficient to produce satd. nickel-sulphate. The soln. also contains 0.5-5 wt.% HCl. A potential difference is set-up between the electrodes at 300-110 deg.C, pref. at 50-100 deg. C. Crystals of NiSO4 are sepd. from the satd. soln. and washed with distilled water.
