Abstract
The use of aryl- and aryloxy-alkanoic acid derivs. of formula (I) and their physiologically innocuous salts, esters and amides for combatting diabetes is new (where R1=H or opt. substd. aryl or aryloxy; R2=H, lower alkyl or -A-R1; A=opt. branched, opt. unsatd. 1-18C alkylene; X=CN, COOEt, aminocarbonyl, amidosulphonyl or -B-R3; B=O, S, SO, SO2, OSO2, NHSO2 or CO; R3= alkyl, CF3, cycloalkyl or aralkyl, aralkenyl or aryl in which the acyl moiety is opt. substd. Cpds. of formula (I) and their physiologically innocuous salts, esters and amides are new and claimed per se when R1 is other than H; A is (un)branched, unsatd. 3-8C alkylene; X is amidosulphonyl or -B-R3; and B is other than CO.
