Abstract

The low temp. properties of liq. hydrocarbons are improved by addn. of ester compsns. prepd. from mixts. of normal fatty acids with 12-24 carbons contg. at least 60 wt.% acids with 16 or more carbons, by reaction with hexavalent sugar-alcohols in the presence of calcium-bentonite and sodium-alkyl-sulphonate at 180 deg.C until the acid number of the reaction mixt. reaches at least 150 mg KOH per g. The water generated in the reaction is subsequently distilled off, opt. aided by nitrogen bubbling. The resulting prod. is filtered at 70-90 deg.C. - The sodium-alkyl-sulphonate has an average mol. wt. of opt. 600, it is applied in a wt. ratio of 1:5 to the calcium-bentonite.
