Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the separation of rawester basically produced by catalytic oxidation of paraxylene (pX)and methyl ester of the paratoluene acid (pTE). The reactionproducts from the oxidation are esterified by methanol whenproducing dimethylterephthalate (DMT) in a fraction rich in pTE,one fraction of raw DMT and one highly boiling residual fraction.The separation of the raw ester is made in a separation devicemade of a separation wall column or a distillation column with aprecolumn, or distillation column with a column additionallyconnected after it. The invention also relates to a method for theDMT production by which the separation of the raw ester is made ina separation device made of a separation wall column or onedistillation column with a column additionally connected after it.7 claims
