Abstract
Insect repellent sunscreen composition comprises: (a) 10-40 wt.% organic sunscreen agent having absorption capability at least within the UV range of 290-400 nm; (b) 2-50 wt.% insect repellent; (c) 1-20 wt.% neopentanoate; (d) 20-60 wt.% water and (e) 0.1-15 wt.% emulsifier. Also claimed is production of the composition by mixing the components together. The sunscreen agent comprises 2-ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, 2-ethylhexyl salicylate, 2-ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate, oxybenzone, padimate O or titanium dioxide and is preferably a mixture of 2-ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, 2-ethylhexyl salicylate and oxybenzone. The insect repellent comprises N,N-diethyl toluamide (DEET), N,N-diethyl benzamide, p-menthane-3,8-diol, 1-piperidinecarboxylic acid, 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-methylpropylester, 1-(3-cyclohexen-1-ylcarbonyl)-2-methylpiperidine, citronella oil, clove oil, coconut oil, cedar oil, geraniol, lemon grass oil, thyme oil, rosemary oil, mint oil, geranium oil or eugenol. Component (c) is an alkyl neopentanoate, preferably octyldodecyl neopentanoate. The emulsifier is an anionic emulsifier.
