Abstract

Essence An internal combustion engine has at least one pair consisting of first 12 and second 14 cylinders with disposed therein respectively first 16 and second 18 pistons, an inlet 24 and outlet 26 means connected with the first cylinder, a first fuel source 30, means for defining a combustion space 20, when the pistons are substantially at the inner dead centre position, the combustion space 20 communicates with both cylinders during part of the expansion stroke and comprises an inhibiting means 38, whereas the second piston 14 has a crown 35, which is spaced from and connected to the crown 36 of the first piston 16 and which has an edge 37. The combustion space 20 is between the piston crowns and a side wall of the second cylinder 14, whereas the edge 37 with a gap is displaced radially in respect to the adjacent wall of the second cylinder and defines the inhibiting means 38, spaced between the cylinder 14 wall and the crown 35 of the piston capable to prevent passing the gas from the second cylinder 14 into the combustion space 20 up to the end of compression. 3.
