A machine for producing helically jointed tubes from strip material in which the strip is fed against a forming head at an angle to its direction of travel to produce the required helical form comprises means, e.g. rolls, for feeding strip from a spare coil, adapted to be moved so that the coil 4 can be transferred bodily into a working position. The machine is substantially identical with that described in Specification 999,887. Strip is fed from a coil S between rolls 62, 63 of the unit 13 and thence to the main drive rolls and the tube forming head whilst the forward end of a spare coil S<SP>1</SP> of strip is engaged by feed rollers 60, 61. As the coil S is exhausted the leading end of the coil S<SP>1</SP> passes between the rolls 62, 63 and meets the trailing end of the used coil to which it is submerged are welded at a station 23. The rolls 60 are subsequently swung upwardly and laterally with respect to the strip through 90 degrees, the magazines 12, 12a opened and the coil S<SP>1</SP> moved bodily forward into its running position 12 followed by the reloading of the position 12a. Forward movement of the coil may be effected by the pull applied to the strip by the feed rolls or by other means. The rolls 60 may be mounted on a common support. The welding unit may be of the flying type or the strips stopped during welding. Specifications 971,151, 998,406 and 999,888 also are referred to.
