Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the welding speed, to greatly improve the productivity, and also, to reduce the installation cost, and to improve the quality of weld zone, by applying the I-groove fast submerged arc welding method to the welding process of the spriral tube manufacturing process.
CONSTITUTION: The coil type strip 1 is uncoiled by the pinch roll 2, and its curling tendency is corrected by the flatness correcting unit 3; after that, its tip 5 is welded by the cutter/welder 4 to the rear end 7 of the strip 6 formerly supplied to this apparatus. Next, the strip 1 is directly sent to the spiral tube former 11 by the main driver 10; then, the strip 1 is formed into a cylinder whose axial line crosses the axial line of the former strip 1 at a specified angle, that is, into a spiral tube with a pitch angle, by the external/internal forming roller 12. Then, the inner face of the jointing portion 13 of this spiral tube is welded by the welder 14 depending on the I-groove fast submerged arc welding method. After that, while the spiral tube is being rotated and sent forward, the outer surface of this spiral tube is welded by the welder 16 depending on the same method as above, and the product spiral tube 17 is formed.
