999,340. Change-speed gear; ratchet clutches. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. March 25, 1963 [March 27, 1962], No. 11695/63. Headings F2C and F2D. A washing machine drive comprises parallel driving and driven shafts 1, 2 connected by alternately couplable step-down 5, 18 and stepup 8, 17 gear pairs. The driven shaft low speed gear 18 is coupled to the shaft 2 through a roller freewheel 20 allowing drive in one direction and overrunning in both directions by virtue of a roller cage 21 held by friction spring 22 engaged with the gear housing 4 which may form the end plate for an electric driving motor. The high speed gear 8 is connected to the driving shaft 1 through a contracting spring clutch 9 engaged by braking a sleeve 10, holding the end 11 of the spring, through a friction spring 13 engaged by a solenoid pin 141.
