999,195. Checking regularity of filaments. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Oct. 7, 1963 [Oct. 16, 1962], No. 39339/63. Headings G1M and G1S. The dimensions of a filament, wire or thread G which may be of oval cross section are determined by imparting a predetermined twist to the filament G before passing it through a measuring device D so that it presents its large and small diameters alternately to the device D. The graph 1, Fig. 1, produced by device D shows the ovality of the filament and variations in section are given by the median curve 2. The filament G is unwound from a bobbin A on a frame B which rotates about an axis XV to impart a twist to the filament. On leaving device D the filament is taken up on a drawing capstan E and wound onto a friction controlled bobbin F. Device D is preferably a non- contacting measuring device.
