Abstract

In conveying material from a zone L 1 in which air is at a higher pressure than air in a zone L 2 , a conveyer belt 4 passes through a wall 1 provided with an upper seal 6 and a lower seal 14. The seal 6 comprises a tube 7 which surrounds the belt and has a trough-shaped base. The tube is divided into compartments 10-12 by partitions 9, each consisting of a rubber sheet having vertical slits 13. The lower seal 14 comprises two rubber strips in an opening in the wall 1. In Fig. 4, the conveyer discharges into a casing 16 which is connected to the tube 7 of the upper seal 6. The apparatus may be used in a cement works, where the belt conveys raw material to a grinding mill inside which there is a partial vacuum.
