Abstract
999,000. Filter cigarette making machines. K. KÍRBER. Nov. 1, 1961 [Nov. 15, 1960], No. 39111/61. Heading A2C. In a method of producing multiple filter cigarettes first sort filter rods are divided into double plugs and second sort filter rods are divided into single plugs, one double plug being inserted between two single plugs. As shown a first sort of filter rod 25 of eight times the final length and a second sort of filter rod of eight times the final length are delivered from magazines 1 and 101 to magazine drums 2 and 102 respectively and severed by cutters 3, 103 into rod components 27, 28, and 29, 30. Further cutters 4, 104 sever the components into double plugs 31 and 35. The double plugs are shifted to peripherally spaced positions on re-arranging wheels 6-9 and 106-109 and then moved together to form a single row in line ahead on shifter drums 10, 110. The double plugs 31 are then delivered to a filter assembly drum 22 and the double plugs 35 are delivered to cutter drum 20 where they are severed into two individual plugs 39, 40 which are passed to a spreader drum 23 on which they are moved apart to position 39<SP>1</SP>, 40<SP>1</SP> and placed in axial alignment with the ends of the double plugs 31 on the drum 22. The group of filters is removed from drum 22 by feeder drum 24 and deposited between two cigarettes on a drum 11. The cigarettefilter group passes to transfer drum 13 and a connector sheet 43 is attached which is wrapped round the group on the drum 16. The group is severed on cutting drum 17 into two individual double filter cigarettes Z 1 , Z 2 which are delivered on to a belt 19.
