Abstract
Cyclohexanone oxime is recovered from mixtures also containing cyclohexylamine and cyclohexanone by adding an aliphatic hydrocarbon having 5 to 10 carbon atoms or cyclohexane in amounts not less than 1-2 parts by weight per 3 parts by weight of cyclohexanone oxime, heating the mixture to dissolve the oxime but below the boiling point of the hydrocarbon, maintaining the temperature and adding at least 1 part by weight of sulphuric acid per 2 parts cyclohexylamine to form a hydrocarbon insoluble salt, separating this from the mixture and then cooling to obtain substantially pure crystalline cyclohexanone oxime. Water may also be added with the hydrocarbon so that the final water content of the mixture is not less than 5 to 10 parts by weight of cyclohexylamine. Before addition of sulphuric acid, not less than 5 parts by weight of hydroxylamine sulphate per 6 parts cyclohexanone may be added. The operating temperature is preferably from 50 DEG to 60 DEG C. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 936,371.
