Abstract

998,728. Disc brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Oct. 16, 1962 [Nov. 1, 1961], No. 39138/61. Heading F2E. A fixed support for a disc brake of the kind having a movable member 5 or members, a fixed support 2, 3 therefor and brake-actuating means 14 associated with the movable member or members, the operation of which results in movement of the movable member or members relative to the fixed support to bring the brake pad or pads 11, 12 at least on one side of the disc 10 into contact therewith comprises means formed integral with an appropriate stationary part of a wheel assembly and adapted to receive the movable member or members and support the same in correct relation to the brake disc. As shown, the fixed support provided by the lugs 2, 3 is formed integral with the swivel hub 1 for a vehicle wheel. The movable member 5, comprising two metal plates 6, 7 secured together, is pivoted at 16 on the lug 2 and is located and guided between the limbs of a steady plate 18 secured to the lug 3. A blade spring or springs or other resilient means can be provided between one or both limbs of the plate 18 and the opposite face of the member 5 to reduce brake chatter. The lugs forming the fixed support can be used with a movable member having a rectilinear sliding movement. Specifications 996,612, 998,726 and 998,727 are referred to.
