998,717. Photographic type - composing. HARRIS - INTERTYPE CORPORATION. June 28, 1961 [June 30, 1960 (2)], No. 8943/65. Divided out of 998,713. Drawings to Specification. Heading B6W. A photographic type-composing machine comprises a character matrix including data thereon relating to the relative width of each character, means for projecting the character images in succession on to a sensitized surface and adjusting the image sizes in accordance with a selected point set factor, the projecting means being operated by record-controlled selector means which also operates scanning means to record the relative width data on the matrix for each character upon photographing thereof, and computing means for multiplying the relative width by the point set factor to provide a digital output for the actual width. The subject-matter is the same as that of Specification 998,713. Specifications 768,374, 891,142, 912,201 and 989,626 also are referred to.
