Abstract
998,224. Boring earth &c. B. F. KELLEY. April 17, 1963, No. 15074/63. Heading E1F. Pipe slips 14 coacting with a bowl 10 are moved to pipe gripping positions (Fig. 1) and to release positions (Fig. 2) by a piston and cylinder arrangement 32, 40, stop means 98, 92 limiting movement of the piston in the direction to move the slips to their release positions. Each of the slips are connected by a linkage 48, 50, 52 to a ring 16 and to a flange 10a of the bowl which is supported in a rotary table T. The ring is fixed to an arm 20 pivoted to a bracket 21 and releasably locked thereto by a latch 27. The bracket is fixed to a sleeve 22 slidable along a post 24 and connected by a piston rod 42 to the piston, the means 98, 92 being respectively carried by the sleeve and the post.
