997,930. Independent rear suspension. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Feb. 7, 1964 [April 17, 1963], No. 5194/64. Heading B7D. In an independent rear suspension for a motor vehicle each rear wheel 11 is secured to a half shaft 7 which is connected by a universal joint 5 to the output member of a differential 3 mounted on the vehicle frame and is journalled in a hub 9 rigid with a trailing arm 13 connected to the body 15 by a ball-joint 17. A brake backing plate 21 is secured to the hub 9 and a combined self-levelling spring and shockabsorber unit 19 extends between the hub and the body.
