Abstract

997,407. Registration in photocomposing machines. J. SURES. Oct. 25,1962, No. 40452/62. Heading G2A. A series of related image-bearing sheets are mounted in register in the chase of a step-andrepeat photocomposing machine by assembling the sheets in register on a cross-ruled glass plate and transferring them to the chase via a carrier, the plate, carrier and chase having co-operating indexing means defining unique orientation. In the particular embodiment described the indexing means are pins or sockets assymetrically located at the corners of the plate, carrier and chase. Masking sheets with corresponding corner holes may optionally be used. Fig. 6 shows a sheet temporarily taped to plate 10 with assymetric projecting pins 14; Fig.4 shows a chase having corresponding sockets 38; Fig. 3 shows a carrier, suitable for use in conjunction with a masking sheet, positioned with its pins 26 engaged in the sockets 38 of the chase of Fig.4; and Fig. 5 shows a carrier, suitable for use without a masking sheet, having assymetric pins 44 and locking pins 52 to hold the negatives.
