[Classes 98 (i) and 98 (ii)] A paper-holding frame for the production of photographic prints or enlargements having a border design or for combination printing, comprises a base for holding the sensitive paper and frames attached at different points thereto, for holding complementary masks, which may be selectively disposed over the paper in register. In contact printing the picture negatives may be clipped under the appropriate mask frames. As shown in Fig. 1, the base 1 has successive recesses 2, 3, 4, and to it are detachably hinged, on opposite sides, mask frames each comprising an outer part 10 provided with stops 17 adapted to engage the recesses 4, and a relatively-adjustable inner part 11 provided with strips 15 and spring hinges 16 for holding the mask. The sensitive paper is held by spring hinges 19, Fig. 4. adjustably mounted in a plate 18 adaptedto rest in the recess 4. To facilitate preliminary registration of the masks, an alignment plate having an opaque area corresponding to the picture area is first placed on the base 1 and illuminated from behind, the mask frames are turned over separately on to the base, and each mask is registered with the opaque area on the plate by adjusting the frame part 11 in the part 10. It is suggested. that a similar apparatus may be used for holding negatives and ornamental margins or other supplementary matter for projection printing, and that such a negative holder may be used in conjunction with a sensitive material holder as above described.
