997,406. Double - faced adhesive sheet material. CHICAGO BACKING CO. Feb. 16, 1962, No. 6189/62. Heading B2E. A double-faced adhesive sheet material is produced by feeding a facing sheet 1, having a release surface therein, along a predetermined path, applying a thin spread 5 of non-drying, tacky, water-insoluble pressure-sensitive adhesive A to the release surface of the facing sheet, laying a thin film-like sheet tissue paper, troya paper or thermoplastic film 7, e.g. an acetate film, firmly over the adhesive spread in positive union therewith and applying another similar adhesive A<SP>1</SP> as a spread 10 over the exposed face of the sheet material, after which the assembly may be dried and cured in oven 14. The material may be rolled while utilizing the free release surface of the facing sheet as a temporary protector between adjacent turns of the roll. The process may be continuous as set out above or may be interrupted after the application of sheet 7, the adhesive spread 5 cured by passage through an oven, and the process repeated to coat the uncoated face of sheet 7. The facing sheet may be a silicone surfaced paper, or a thermoplastic film, e.g. a cellulose acetate film. The adhesive, e.g. rubber-based adhesive, may be applied using a doctor blade. The sheet material may be used to adhere knobs, hooks, brackets, mouldings, picture frames and like items to objects or walls.
