Abstract

997,159. Hydrodynamic couplings. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. June 18, 1964, No. 25307/64. Heading F2C. To reduce the starting torque of a motorvehicle hydrodynamic coupling, at least the impeller 11 is provided with forwardly inclined, or curved, blades 17, and a baffle 23 is arranged in the flow circuit nearest the axis of rotation of the coupling. The baffle 23 may be a disc 22 attached to the hub of a turbine 12 or a step formed by the difference between the inner diameters of the impeller and turbine elements. The couplingmay be used in conjunction with a mechanical isolating or centrifugal clutch.
