996,521. Cam-operated switches; momentary-contact switches; retractive switches. LA TELEMECANIQUE ELECTRIQUE. March 30, 1962 [April 5, 1961], No. 12439/62. Heading H2B. The on/off conditions of a limit switch actuated by a cam 30 upon angular movement of a shaft 11 can be easily reversed with respect to the direction of movement of the shaft by rotating the shaft beyond its normal angular limit after temporary release of the limiting means. The cam 30 is fixed on shaft 11 which has an arm 13 secured thereon by screw 41, and pins 32, 40 on cam 30 co-operate with lugs inside casing 10 (Fig 3, not shown) to restrict the movement to a little under 180 degrees. The shaft is spring-loaded to the right by spring 19 acting on a cam sleeve 17 having lugs 17a slidable in grooves 10a, 10b in casing 10. Cam 17 also has V-shaped recesses 33a, 33b which co-operate with V- shaped ridges 31a, 31b on cam 30 to urge the cam 30 (and therefore shaft 11 and arm 13) to a central neutral position. Movement of arm 13 in one direction causes cam 30 to depress ball 7 and actuator 6 of microswitch 1 while movement in the other direction does not operate the switch. Cam 30 is symmetrical about a horizontal diameter such that if the shaft 11 is moved axially to the left against spring 19 and then rotated to move pins 32, 40 past the co-operating stops in casing 10 and then allowed to return to the right, the profile of cam 30 which co-operates with ball 7 is reversed with respect to the previous condition and the switch is operated by movement in the opposite sense. The arm 13 would have to be released and reset 180 degrees displaced after such adjustment. Normally movement of the shaft 11 to the left causes arm 13 to abut a sleeve 12 before pins 32, 40 are clear of their co-operating lugs and thus inadvertent adjustment of the active cam profile is prevented. The device may have two stable end positions instead of a central neutral position by providing cam 17 with four V-shaped recesses in place of the two 33a, 33b. The cam 30 may have other profiles than that shown, for example it might provide momentary actuation of switch 1 by rotation of the shaft in one direction. Specification 906,990 is referred to.
