Dyeing apparatus comprises a reservoir'30 for liquid dye, a mixing fluid line 26 for the supply of mixing fluid to dilute the dye, a metering container 32 for measuring a quantity of dye to be diluted, a first flow line 33, 40 interconnecting the reservoir and the metering container with a pump 36 and valve 41 therein, a second flow line 44 connecting the metering container and the reservoir for recirculation of liquid dye when the metering container contains the measured quantity of dye, a third flow line 46 connecting the metering container with the mixing fluid line through a valve 48, and operating means for concurrently stopping the pump 36, closing the valve 41 and opening the valve 48 to allow the measured quantity of dye to pass into the mixing fluid line 26. The line 26 leads into the bell chamber of a stocking dyeing device. In operation with valve 41 open and a valve 29 in the mixing fluid line 26 and valve 48 closed, dye liquid is pumped by pump 36 from reservoir 30 into metering container 32. When the latter is filled dye liquid circulates through flow line 44 back into the reservoir 30. Valve 41 is then closed, pump 36 stopped and valves 48 and 29 opened. This connects the container 32 with the main fluid line 26 and by means of a Venturi 50 the dye liquid is mixed with water in the line 26 and discharged into the treating chamber (not shown). When the required amount of water has passed through flow meter 28, valves 29 and 48 are closed valve 41 is opened and the pump 36 started, to recharge the metering container 32. Valves 29, 48 and 41 are interconnected by suitable linkage and operated by a plunger 62 in pressure cylinder 63. So that the container 32 may be quickly flushed and cleaned to enable a new dye to be used, the flow line 44 may be connected with a pipe 65, as shown in broken lines, which is connected with the main fluid line 26. The connection 34 of line 33 with reservoir 30 is disconnected and the pump 36 started in reverse direction. The reservoir 30 is replaced by a new one having the new dye liquid therein and after the flushing is completed the connection remade for normal operation. Specification 826,404 is referred to.
