Abstract

The invention comprises polyketones and copolyketones containing units of formula <FORM:0994583/C3/1> where n is an integer greater than 2 and the aromatic nucleus may be unsubstituted or substituted by one to four alkyl or alkoxy groups or fluoro or chloro atoms. The polyketones are prepared by self-condensation of compounds of formula <FORM:0994583/C3/2> In an example a polymer is prepared from 4-phenoxybutyryl chloride using aluminium chloride as catalyst. Other catalysts are mentioned.
