A chair has a main structure comprising lower and upper parts 1, 5 hinged together at 9 at an upper front portion of the lower part 1, the upper part 5 having side members 8 and including a sealing surface 1a and back rest 1b and being supported by coiled compression springs 10 disposed between a bottom rear cross-member 7 of the upper part 5 and a rear cross-member 3 of the lower part 1, the lower part 1 having side members 4, the upper edges 4a of which slope downwardly in the rearward direction for progressive increase of the space between the members 4, 8 to allow backward tilting of the upper part 5. Flexible strips 11 are attached to and connected across the upper and lower parts 5, 1.
