A hydrostatically actuated valve for emptying a liquid container has a cylindrical body 1 with a lower part 1<SP>1</SP> of a lesser diameter to provide a chamber for a piston 6. The piston is lifted by fluid under pressure admitted to the chamber through a tube 8 provided with a hand-controlled valve (not shown), to raise a valve 3 from a conical seat 12, discharge from the container taking place through a lateral aperture 5. Holes in the piston and in a rubber packing are arranged in offset relationship to holes in a sleeve 2 permit the return of the piston to its original position after the handcontrolled valve has been closed. The fluid for actuating the piston may be drawn from the container or from a separate tank.
